Denmark is the biggest producer of fish meal and fish oil, as well as eager traders in the global market.<\/li>\n<li>Nearly half of all fish meal and fish oil imported for the EU, goes to Denmark, numbers from European Market Observatory for Fisheries and Aquaculture Products (EUMOFA) show.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-356cf6dc\" data-id=\"356cf6dc\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-478fde42 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"478fde42\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, fish is the most important source of protein for 17 percent of the world\u2019s population, and in about 30 years, we will urgently need cheap and healthy sources of protein. In 30 years we will be around nine billion people on the planet. This is pointed out by UN agricultural organization FAO in their report, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/state-of-fisheries-aquaculture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The State of the World\u2019s Fisheries and Aquaculture Report 2018<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In short, if we want to feed the entire world\u2019s population, we need to produce more fish.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, fish farming is supposed to deliver 109 million tons of healthy and relatively cheap fish to consumers around the world in 2030, FAO says. By that time farmed fish will make up for 60 percent of the world&#8217;s fish production, and the pressure on wild fish will ease, and hence the climate pressure will be less.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That is the UN\u2019s valuation. Marine Biologists seem to disagree.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Aqua culture puts pressure on wild fish<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou do not ease the pressure on wild fish by using pelagic fish in feed to farmed fish\u201d, Daniel Pauly writes in the scientific magazine Nature.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Farmed fish has to be fed with fish &#8211; in the shape of fish meal- and an increase in farmed fish will naturally lead to a larger pressure on fishing\u201d, says Daniel Pauly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Philippe Cury is a senior scientist at the french research institute for development, Institut de Recherche pour le D\u00e9veloppement in Belgium.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe increased demand for fish flour used for fish farming puts a large pressure on pelagic fish all over the world\u201d, he says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to FAO, 85 percent of the world\u2019s fish stocks has reached its maximum limit for fishing, or is about to collapse. And the future does not look any brighter.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The state of the World\u2019s Fisheries and Aquaculture Report 2018 says:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt seems unlikely that the world\u2019s fishing fleets in a near future will be able to restore the 33.1 percent of fish species, which today are overfished, because a restoration takes time, usually to-three times the species life cycle\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-25 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-6bc166c6 elementor-hidden-tablet elementor-hidden-phone\" data-id=\"6bc166c6\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>85 percent of the Worlds fish stocks are fully exploited or on the brink of collapse, and aqua culture could be the response to the pressure on wild fisheries and secure food for a growing population.
